Nature Youth Camp in Deomali

Project Point Odisha successfully organized a 4-day Nature Youth Camp at Deomali Hills, Koraput, the highest peak of Odisha, with the goal of engaging youth in climate action, environmental awareness, and sustainable development under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13: Climate Action and SDG 15: Life on Land.

Key Objectives of the Camp:

  • Promote youth participation in environmental conservation and climate education.

  • Foster leadership among youth for local ecological sustainability.

  • Encourage responsible tourism and conservation in tribal and eco-sensitive zones.

Activities Conducted:

  • Nature Trail & Trekking around Deomali for ecological study.

  • Workshops on SDG & Climate Change with experts from environmental sciences.

  • Tribal and Local Interaction sessions to understand traditional eco-friendly practices.

  • Clean-up Drive and Tree Plantation near campsite areas.

  • Art and Expression Competitions (posters, slogans, and poetry) on environment themes.

  • Night Bonfire Discussion on youth role in global climate responsibility.

Participation:

Over 100 youth delegates from across Odisha, including tribal youth and eco-club members from colleges and schools, took part in the camp. The participants represented various youth-led organizations, NSS, NYKS, and climate action groups.

Impact & Outcome:

  • Participants pledged to become "Youth Climate Ambassadors" in their own regions.

  • A report on Youth for Nature Action Plan 2025 was drafted during the camp.

  • Enhanced understanding among youth about biodiversity conservation in the Eastern Ghats.

This Nature Youth Camp is a step towards building a strong, informed, and active youth community for climate resilience and sustainable ecosystems in Odisha.
